Job Title: Project Manager – Structural & Miscellaneous Metals
Employment Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire
Location: York, Pennsylvania or Richmond, Virginia
Compensation: $65,000 – $85,000 annually (based on experience)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Additional hours, including overtime and occasional Saturdays, may be required based on project demands.
Position Summary
We are seeking a Project Manager with experience in miscellaneous metals and structural steel to oversee fabrication and erection projects from initial planning through final completion. This position is responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable managing multiple project phases while coordinating closely with internal teams, subcontractors, and clients.
Primary Responsibilities
Oversee fabrication and field installation activities for structural steel, miscellaneous metals, joists, and metal decking
Coordinate detailing efforts and manage surveying requirements
Review construction drawings and specifications to determine material quantities, sizes, and placement
Build and maintain comprehensive project schedules, covering all phases from preconstruction through closeout
Manage submittals, contracts, purchase orders, subcontracts, and related project documentation
Develop schedules of values and process monthly billing submissions
Prepare and negotiate change orders, including additions, deductions, and scope revisions
Foster strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and project stakeholders
Coordinate with other trades to maintain timelines, ensure material availability, and resolve design conflicts
Participate in BIM coordination efforts, including clash detection for steel scope integration
Issue corrective actions to subcontractors when performance or compliance issues arise
Maintain organized and accurate project records in both digital and physical formats
Qualifications
Minimum of 4 years of project management experience, ideally within steel fabrication or erection
Proven experience managing commercial or industrial steel construction projects
2- or 4-year degree in a related field preferred
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
Experience using scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project or Primavera is preferred
Valid U.S. driver’s license
Familiarity with Tekla and Fabtrol systems is a plus
Strong understanding of steel construction processes, materials, and equipment
Knowledge of safety practices, quality standards, and cost control methods
Ability to perform job-related calculations and support field verification activities
Work Environment & Travel
Work involves exposure to active construction environments, including dust, welding and paint fumes, and elevated noise levels
Interaction with moving equipment and potential electrical hazards is expected
Approximately 15% travel required; mileage reimbursement provided
